The 27th African Union Summit entrusted President Paul Kagame “to lead the ongoing institutional reform of the African Union Commission and its Organs, to ensure that the A.U. structures and modus operandi are aligned with the demands of integration and implementation of Agenda 2063, and to enable more effective and efficient use of resources and business-oriented delivery”.
In pursuit of that mandate, on October 31st and November 1st, President Kagame held a third round of consultations with an advisory team assisting him with this process.
The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, briefed the group at length about the challenges and opportunities facing the organisation in the years ahead.
Discussion focused on the changes necessary to make the African Union and its Organs more functional and fit-for-purpose, in order to better serve the continent’s needs in a rapidly-changing economic, social, and political context in Africa and globally.
Over the coming weeks and months, further consultations with a broad range of stakeholders across Africa are set to continue.

DÉCLARATION SUR LA REFORME DE L’UNION AFRICAINE
Kigali, 1er novembre 2016 — Lors du 27e sommet de l’Union Africaine, le Président Paul Kagamé s’est vu confier la mission de « mener à bien la réforme institutionnelle, en cours, de la Commission de l’union Africaine et ses organes, pour s’assurer que les structures de l’Union Africaine et son modus operandi soient en conformité avec les demandes d’intégration et la mise en application de l’agenda 2063, ainsi que de permettre une utilisation plus efficace des ressources et une approche plus axée sur les résultats ».
C’est dans cette perspective que le 31 octobre et 1er Novembre le Président Kagame a menée une troisième série de consultations avec l’équipe de conseillers qui l’aident dans ce processus.
La Présidente de la Commission de l’Union Africaine, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, a fait un exposé approfondi à l’équipe de conseillers concernant les défis et opportunités auxquels l’organisation fera face dans les années à venir.
Les discussions se sont focalisées sur les changements requis pour permettre à l’Union Africaine et ses organes d’adopter des pratiques plus efficaces afin de mieux répondre aux besoins du continent dans le contexte socio-économique et politique actuel aux niveaux régional et global.
Dans les semaines et mois à venir, d’autres consultations auront lieu avec divers partenaires.
