President Kagame today received Ali Bongo Ondimba, President of the Republic of Gabon, who is on a two-day working visit to Rwanda. President Bongo arrived in the country today afternoon in the company of the First Lady, Sylvia Bongo Ondimba and were received at the Kigali International Airport by President Kagame and the First Lady, Jeanette Kagame.
Upon arrival, President Bongo visited the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), where he met with senior management and toured key departments. The First Lady, Sylvia Bongo visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center in the company of the Rwanda First Lady, Jeanette Kagame.
Rwanda and Gabon have had a framework of bilateral cooperation which was signed in 1976. The cooperation agreement was renewed in 2010 when the Rwanda Minister of Foreign Affairs led a delegation to Gabon, after President Ali Bongo visited Rwanda in September 2010, to attend both the MDGs consultative meeting and the inauguration ceremony of President Kagame. At the diplomatic level, Rwanda is represented to Gabon by the Ambassador of Rwanda to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
