Kigali, 21 June 2011
President Kagame today received the former German President Prof. Horst Kohler at his offices in Urugwiro Village. The former President was accompanied by Prof. Berhard Vogel, Head of Konrad Adenauer Foundation and Former Prime Minister of Rhineland Palatinate.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, Prof. Kohler said: “I have known President Kagame from earlier days and I feel that he is on the right track towards achieving peace, stability and prosperity in Rwanda and making his contribution in the region. I also know that German investors are increasingly getting interested in Africa and Rwanda in particular. They are mostly looking at predictability of conditions. Conditions for private sector business are better in Rwanda than in many countries in the region. The President has confirmed to me that his objective is to make the conditions even better to further improve the investment climate.”
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Louise Mushikiwabo, said that the former German President was in the country to meet and hold discussions with the President on the progress of regional integration and investment. She said: “Prof. Kohler last met with President Kagame in Germany in 2008 when he was still President and wanted to follow up and know the progress Rwanda is making. He has expressed interest in linking German business people with Rwanda and the region in general. He is visiting to find out the readiness of the region to receive German investors.”
