President Kagame today officiated at the swearing-in of the new Prime Minister, Pierre Damien Habumuremyi who was, until his appointment yesterday, Minister of Education. Prime Minister Habumuremyi replaces Bernard Makuza, who has served in the position since March 2000. Following the submission of the list of proposed cabinet members by Prime Minister Habumuremyi, new the ministers took their oath of office.
In his address, President Kagame thanked the outgoing Prime Minister and the entire cabinet for a job well done. On the returning ministers, President Kagame pointed out that a winning team deserved to be maintained. He however asked Rwandans to get used to change as a way to bring about improvement in service to the nation.
Urging leaders to work together and deliver better to the people of Rwanda, President Kagame said: “We are the most scrutinized nation in the world but this should only give us more strength to serve our people even better. We should never be disheartened by what diversionary people say about us”.
