RPF candidate Paul Kagame today presented his candidature at the National Electoral Commission. President Kagame, who was the first candidate to present his papers to the commission, was greeted by a large gathering of RPF supporters. After the presentation of candidature ceremony, President Kagame met and spoke to the press during a short press briefing held at the National Electoral Commission offices.

Speaking to the press, President Kagame expressed that he was honored to be nominated as the RPF presidential candidate and revealed that as part of his priorities should he be elected for a second term, would be to focus on Rwanda’s social and economic development. “I look forward to continue working with the RPF and the Rwandan people in finding solutions to the social and economic transformation of our country”.

The National Electoral Commission also announced that presidential candidate Prosper Higiro of the Liberal Party would also be presenting his papers later on that day as well as speaking to the press, with Ntawukuriryayo Jean Damascene of Social Democratic Party presenting the following day.

Presidential campaigns are scheduled to begin on the 20th of July 2010.
