President Kagame visits Mohamed Ali Mosque and the National Museum in Cairo – Cairo, 5 November 2009

President Kagame on Thursday toured two of Egypt’s renowned cultural heritage sites; the Mohamed Ali mosque and Egypt’s National museum. President Kagame was given a guided tour of the Mohamed Ali mosque, named after Mohamed Ali Pasha, ancient ruler of Egypt who is considered by many to be the founder of Egypt. The mosque is said to have served as a fort of ancient Egyptian rulers. This was followed by a visit to the historic National museum of Egypt which houses some of the world’s most revered historical artifacts, including those found in the tomb of King Tutankhamen and the remains of King Ramses the II.

President Kagame on Thursday, President Kagame held talks with President Mubarak following official welcome ceremonies at the Egyptian Presidential Palace. Discussions at the meeting centered around strengthening the existing bilateral relations between Rwanda and Egypt and establishing cooperation in the key areas of agriculture, business and trade. Also discussed was ongoing dialogue on the Nile Basin and moving forward with plans for how to best use the Nile River for the benefit of both nations.
Earlier in the day, President Kagame laid wreaths at the Memorial of the Unknown Soldier in honour of Egypt’s fallen soldiers of the October War of 1973 and the late Anwar Sadat who was laid to rest at the site in 1981.

President Kagame visits Imperial College London- London, 3 November 2009

President Kagame on Monday afternoon visited Imperial College London, where he was met by the Rector, Sir Roy Anderson and Professor Baron Peter Piot, Director of the Global Health Institute. President Kagame toured key facilities and witnessed the signing of a historical partnership agreement between the university and the Government of Rwanda.

President Kagame speaks of Rwanda’s commitment to creating a pro-business environment.President Kagame today delivered the keynote speech at the ‘Private Equity in Africa Summit’ held at the London Stock Exchange. Speaking to over 125 representatives of the largest Private Equity Funds in Africa, major Hedge Funds, Investment Banks and Sovereign Wealth Funds, President Kagame said that in recent years, Africa had achieved real progress in all areas, particularly in economic growth, and pointed out that those who still hold incorrect perceptions of Africa and Rwanda are missing great opportunities.

President Kagame receives US Deputy Secretary of Treasury - Kigali, 31 October 2009 President Kagame on Saturday at Urugwiro Village received Neal Wolin, the US Deputy Secretary of Treasury. The Deputy Secretary is on a nine-day African tour of Rwanda, Tanzania and South Africa to highlight key economic growth issues, including infrastructure, food security and investment. In the meeting with President Kagame, the Deputy Secretary said that he was impressed with the tremendous progress that has taken place in Rwanda since 1994 and expressed his government’s appreciation for the country’s leadership in peacekeeping in Darfur. He pointed out that after extensive discussions with senior Rwandan officials on the country’s priorities in agriculture, the economy, finance and infrastructure, he looked forward to contributing Rwanda’s forward progress.

President Kagame receives Special Envoy for DRC - Kigali, 28 October 2009

President Kagame on Wednesday at Urugwiro Village received the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region, Olusegun Obasanjo. In discussions with President Kagame, the special envoy expressed appreciation of the support received in the last year since the Summit of the Great Lakes Region on DRC that took place in Nairobi last November, saying that the situation in the region had changed substantially for the better and that the most difficult work had been completed.

President Kagame holds monthly meeting with the press – Kigali, 16 October 2009

President Kagame today met with local and regional press following a two-month hiatus, and responded to a range of questions including on the state of the economy, planned regular appearances before parliament by the Prime Minister, the upcoming 2010 presidential elections, how Rwanda is viewed internationally, and comments on China’s investments in Africa made in an interview earlier this week.
