President Kagame meets Nyabugogo business cooperatives – Kigali,8 May 2010

President Kagame on Saturday visited Nyabugogo trading centre where he met with members of several business cooperatives operating there. In his remarks, the President thanked the business people, saying that their activities are making huge contributions to changes taking place in the city and the country. “If you compare how this place looked like a few years ago and now, you will note that things have changed tremendously in terms of development and attitude towards work. This indeed is the basis of Rwanda’s new politics that should be embraced by every Rwandan,” the President said.

President Kagame addresses OCU commencement- Oklahoma, Friday, April 30, 2010

President Paul Kagame on Friday was the keynote speaker at the 2010 commencement ceremony at Oklahoma Christian University in which 310 students, among them 10 Rwandans under the Rwanda Presidential Scholarship program graduated. The university also conferred an honorary Doctorate Degree to Rwanda’s First Lady Jeanette Kagame for her significant contribution to the worldwide fight against HIV/AIDS and poverty. “I dedicate this award to the resilient men, women and children of Rwanda, with whom we toil daily, and whose lives and testimony have put me at this place of honour and prestige,” she said in acceptance remarks, and thanked the University for its contribution towards providing quality education to Rwanda’s youth.

President Kagame visits Greater Atlanta Christian School – Atlanta, Wednesday April 28, 2010

As part of his ongoing working visit to the United States, President Kagame on Wednesday visited Greater Atlanta Christian School located in Atlanta, Georgia. The President’s visit aims to strengthen partnership with the school which plans to establish a Central Africa School of Excellence based in Rwanda, which will accommodate about 200 students. In his remarks, President Kagame stressed Rwanda’s commitment to invest in Education in order to create a knowledge and skills driven Rwandan society and economy.

President Kagame receives Canada Governor General – Kigali, Wednesday, April 21, 2010

President Kagame today at Urugwiro Village received Canada’s Governor General Michaëlle Jean at an official welcoming ceremony featuring a guard of honor mounted by the Rwanda Defense Force. The Governor General is in Rwanda on a four-day state visit, as part of her tour of Africa.

Following a private meeting between President Kagame and the Governor General, the two heads of state held official talks with the delegation accompanying the Governor General and Rwandan officials at which were discussed bilateral cooperation, trade and investment as well as issues of governance.

President Kagame at Swearing- in of newly appointed Minister of Defense and Military Chiefs – Kigali, 13 April 2010

President Kagame today attended the swearing in ceremony of the newly appointed Minister of Defense, General James Kabarebe, Chief of Defense Staff, General Charles Kayonga; Commander of Land Forces, Lt. General Ceasar Kayizari; and the Commander of the Reserve Force, General Charles Muhire. In his remarks at the event, President Kagame urged Rwandans to draw hope and confidence from what they had endured as well as what they had managed to overcome during the past 16 years. He pointed out that all that had been promised to Rwandans in terms of security had been achieved, through both war and peaceful means; but all aimed at consolidating stability and security in the country.

President Kagame at the 16th Commemoration of the Genocide of the Tutsi - Kigali, 7 April 2010,

President Kagame and Mrs Kagame on Wednesday took part in ceremonies to mark the 16th anniversary of the start of the genocide. President Kagame and Mrs Kagame participated in a solemn event at the Kigali Memorial Centre where, joined by young people representing families of survivors, they laid a wreath at the graves of victims of the genocide, and lit a flame that will burn for the following hundred days, before joining thousands of Rwandans and guests for the official commemoration at the Amahoro National stadium.

President Kagame holds monthly Press Conference - Kigali, April 5 2010

President Kagame today held his monthly Press Conference at his offices in Village Urugwiro, where he answered questions from members of the public and private press. During the Press Conference he assured Rwandans that the government was committed to protect genocide survivors and also provide assistance to ameliorate their lives. He warned those who harass and kill genocide survivors that the government would use all means available to enforce the law and ensure that everyone’s right to life is respected. He said that the Government would continue to put emphasis on addressing the plight of genocide survivors so as to curb trauma cases and provide them with better lives.
