President Kagame presents Candidature at National Electoral Commission - Kigali, 24 June 2010

RPF candidate Paul Kagame today presented his candidature at the National Electoral Commission. President Kagame, who was the first candidate to present his papers to the commission, was greeted by a large gathering of RPF supporters. After the presentation of candidature ceremony, President Kagame met and spoke to the press during a short press briefing held at the National Electoral Commission offices.

President Kagame attends Tax Payers’ Day - Rusizi, 13 June 2010

President Kagame today attended the annual national Tax Payers’ Day which took place at the Rusiizi Stadium. In his remarks, the President who before coming to the celebrations officially opened a 7600 M3 capacity MAGERWA Rusiizi branch thanked the Rwanda Revenue Authority for doing a good job. He said that the increase in the number of tax payers implied the increase in economic activities, which he said was a sign of development. “We need to work hard in order to be able to sustain ourselves and be less dependent on foreign assistance. The private sector has a big role to play towards this goal,” the President said.

President meets Nyamasheke residents – Nyamasheke, 12 June 2010

President Kagame today met residents of Nyamasheke District as part of his three day visit to the Western province. In his remarks, the President thanked the people of Nyamasheke for contributing to national development by engaging in different economic activities, including farming, fishing and trade. He said Nyamasheke had been exemplary in implementing government programs, which he said had enormously transformed the district, and urged them to increase efforts in order to make what has been achieved sustainable.

President Kagame attends France-Africa Summit - Nice, 31 May 2010

President Kagame is in Nice, France where he is participating in the 25th France Africa Summit, following an invitation extended by President Sarkozy during his visit to Kigali last February.
Around 40 African Heads of State have confirmed attendance at the two-day summit which will consist mainly of closed sessions focusing on governance, reinforcement of peace and security, and climate change. This is President Kagame's first visit to France in eight years, having last visited during the France-Afrique Summit held in Paris in 2002.

President Kagame receives Deputy Secretary General of the Commonwealth - Kigali, 25 May 2010

The visit by the Deputy Secretary General of the Commonwealth Ms Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba and two senior officers of the Commonwealth Secretariat is a follow up of both the Flag raising event in London on March 8, 2010 and of the Visit by the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Secretariat in February. The Deputy Secretary General is leading senior technical officials from the Common wealth Secretariat to engage Rwanda's senior technical officials in the development of a plan of action on the activities and thematic areas agreed between Commonwealth Secretariat and Rwanda.

President Kagame holds monthly Press Conference - Kigali, May 11 2010

President Kagame today held his monthly Press conference at Village Urugwiro where he answered various questions from members of the public and private press. In his opening statement, the President referred to his weekend visit to the Nyabugogo trading centre where he met with members of different business cooperatives and the many other meetings where he encounters with the population saying that this is a reminder of invaluable contributions by people to develop themselves and take forward the country’s economy. “In general, one can talk about satisfaction with the outlook of the economy of our country despite the upheavals in the global economy. We have weathered the storm within our means and possibilities,” he said.

President Kagame addresses the Rwanda Investment Forum – Kigali, 10 May 10, 2010

President Kagame today addressed the Rwanda Investment Forum organized in collaboration with the Common Wealth Business Council, which is taking place in Kigali at the Kigali Serena Hotel. In his remarks, the President welcomed all the participants to Rwanda, saying that the meeting was significant due to the fact that it is the first official event that Rwanda is hosting as a member of the Commonwealth.
